Ariana Grande and Kid Cudi Release Song for Film Don’t Look Up

Ariana Grande and Kid Cudi have released their new song, “Just Look Up,” from the upcoming Netflix film Don’t Look Up, which you can catch both Grande and Cudi in. When the cast of the film was first announced, many guessed that the two musicians would end up creating a song for the film. This is the pair’s first collaboration.

The song starts with simple piano chords and Grande singing, but builds into a dramatic pop ballad. Kid Cudi comes in the middle of the track for a short feature, and then Grande takes back over to wrap up the song. Grande sounds stunning as always on the song, her vocals soaring in the chorus. It’s a parody of a pop song, but it functions as a catchy song all on its own.

In Don’t Look Up, Ariana Grande plays a pop star named Riley Bina and Kid Cudi plays DJ Chello. Within the film, the song serves as a passionate plea for people to pay attention to the comet that is heading straight towards planet earth. The lyrics are a little humorous and will probably make more sense with the full context of the film’s plot, but some parts feel like they could be speaking to the current situation in the real world. At one point Grande sings “get your head out of your ass, Listen to the goddamn qualified scientists, We really fucked it up, fucked it up this time.

The song had already earned award nominations before it’s official release. It is nominated in both the Onscreen Performance and Feature Film Song categories at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards.  Don’t Look Up is a comedy directed by Adam McKay and stars Leonardo Dicaprio, Jenifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill and others. The film will hit theaters December 10 and will be available to watch on streaming December 24.
