2021 has been a comeback year for a lot of artists. For Alison Wonderland, it’s been a year of dropping beats and dropping hints. The Australian DJ has been in America touring the festival circuit when she’s not in the studio. So if you were lucky enough to attend any of her 2021 shows, you probably heard “Fuck U Love U” live. Now, the track has gotten a proper release and fans are calling it an instant Alison classic. With her signature vocals and EDM/electro-pop blend, we couldn’t agree more.
“Fuck U Love U” may not have the most lyrics, but it has some that hit hard. We’ve all experienced relationships with someone we don’t want to want. Or someone we love to hate. Also, lines like “I’m all alone. I think too much,” are showing clear signs of relatable, pandemic writing. Now, we’re able to hear those lyrics and dance to them with others and not by ourselves.
As for the production, “Fuck U Love U” is phenomenal. The slow build up to the beat drop is layered with sonic nuances. Mixed with Alison’s distinct and echoing vocals, it’s great for both those who casually vibe to EDM tracks or those going all out dancing at shows. The track is catchy and brings in a variety of different mixing effects. So, “Fuck U Love U” is great for new and old fans alike.
Overall, a great track from Alison Wonderland. Yes, it took her until December to release a song this year, but she was busy and it was worth the wait. If you’re digging “Fuck U Love U” while casually jamming, you have to make it to an Alison Wonderland show (fondly referred to as Church or the Temple of Wonderland). And if this track is any indicator, unnamed album number 3 is going to be amazing.
