Holly Humberstone Releases New Song “Sleep Tight”

Holly Humberstone has been very busy since winning the Rising Star Award this year at the Brits. She went on tour opening for girl in red, played two weekends at Coachella, and is now serving as the opener on Olivia Rodrigo’s sold out Sour Tour.

Despite all this, she’s found the time to drop her new single “Sleep Tight” with a music video. She has been playing the song as part of her set on the road, so fans who haven’t been able to make a tour date can finally hear the new track.

The song is about the risky moments when a friendship may start to develop into something more. In the pre-chorus she sings, “And, oh my god, I’ve done it again / I almost killed our friendship, and I sure hope it’s worth it / And I got all this stuff boiling up / ‘Cause I got drunk and said too much.” The song was written during the first summer after lockdown, and also explores that renewed sense of freedom and burst of lighthearted energy. It’s a bright and hopeful track, but it has a melancholic weight to it.

Humberstone co-wrote the song with Matt Healy of The 1975 and her producer Rob Milton. This is the second song Healy and Humberstone have collaborated on. The other, “Please Don’t Leave Just Yet,” was released last year.

In the music video for “Sleep Tight” Holly Humberstone rolls around the suburbs in a self-driving minivan. She works her way from the back of the car to the front seat before it floats off into the sky.

“Sleep Tight” is the second original song Humberstone has released this year. She released “London is Lonely” in the early winter, and dropped a cover of the Prince track “I Would Die 4 U.” She hasn’t said whether her fans can expect a longer body of work this year, but she will be busy on the road through the summer. She’ll be bopping around America with Rodrigo for a bit longer before crossing the pond back to the UK to play some headlining shows and Glastonbury.
