Last week, Conor Mason surprised Nothing But Thieves’ fans by revealing he’s been working on a very personal solo project since lockdown. The project, Man-Made Sunshine, blends elements of alt-rock, psych-pop, and electronica into an experimental new sound.
When unveiling the news, Mason shared that, during the pandemic, he discovered “trapped emotions” and “unprocessed memories trying to get out” of his head. “I decided to write it all down and put it together in song form,” he continued. Also, Conor guaranteed fans that he is not leaving Nothing But Thieves; they still have a lot more to share in the future.
Furthermore, the musician explained that Man-Made Sunshine’s upcoming EP will consist of five tracks about “reflection, growth, and inner love; coming to terms with oneself.” Last Wednesday, Mason unveiled his first single “Life’s Gonna Kill You (If You Let It).” The song is about a deep bond he formed with a friend while both of them were going through a heavy depression.
As always, Conor’s vocals are the highlight of the track, and his passion for this new adventure is evident throughout the song. If this single is an indication of how the full EP will sound like, Man-Made Sunshine is definitely a step in the right direction for Mason’s career.
Along with the single, Man-Made Sunshine released a visualizer with effects that go perfectly with the production in “Life’s Gonna Kill You (If You Let It).” Definitely, Man-Made Sunshine brings something new to the table with this first single, and we can’t wait to listen to the entire EP!
