Last Tuesday, Rockwood Music Hall was packed wall to wall with fans who were lucky enough to get to spend an evening with Andrew McMahon. Celebrating the release of his latest album, Tilt At The Wind No More, Andrew delivered an intimate 2-hour set, accompanied only by his piano and Bobby Anderson on acoustic guitar. The duo played through the entirety of TATWNM, figuring out acoustic arrangements for some songs on the fly, followed by a medley of previous Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness, Jack’s Mannequin, and Something Corporate songs.
To be in such a small room with the singer as he told story after story about both his newest songs and deep cuts that fans have been singing along to for decades, was a truly special experience. One fan summed it up perfectly when they quietly (but loudly enough to be heard by the entire tiny audience) exclaimed “this is insane” at the start of a song. “I feel that too,” Andrew commented back before continuing to hammer on the keys.
