Boygenius Returns To New York

In the fall of 2018, boygenius played their first New York show – performing songs off their self-titled EP to a sold out room of 1800 fans. Five years later, their return to New York was a far contrast from that first show, playing this past Saturday to a sold out Forest Hills Stadium, with 13,000 fans singing along this time.

As part of the Re:Set Concert Series – a three-lineup touring mini festival launched this year – boygenius took over Forest Hills this weekend accompanied by Clairo, Dijon, and Bartees Strange. The lineup was stacked, the weather was perfect (save for one quick rain shower during Clairo’s set), and the excitement from those in attendance was contagious.

The supergroup consisting of Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers began their set with an acapella version of “Without You Without Them” backstage, which was projected onto the screen onstage, before exploding onto the stage. They played through their entire discography, debuted an outtake titled “Boyfriends”, and each performed one of their solo tracks as well. Three incredible performers backed by a stellar band, the trio never missed a beat. Their set was absolutely perfect, and I can only hope they come back around soon.
